| Introductory Workshop
on Mapping and Prospecting
TBA
An entry-level course for first year geologists, summer students,
and exploration technologists as well as recent geophysical and
engineering graduates. This ‘hands-on’ workshop should
be a requirement for any recent hires new to the oil and gas industry.
Most of the two-day workshop is spent working on over 20 practical
exercises, which represent the tasks we are typically confronted
with in the oil and gas industry, while mapping and prospecting.
These exercises will expose participants to the geology and oil
and gas traps of the WCSB, the importance of seismic, obtaining
oil and gas rights, evaluating farmin and farmout proposals, contouring
prospect maps, drilling and evaluating wells, and reviewing and
preparing prospect presentations.
Generating and recommending successful prospects is the lifeblood
of oil and gas exploration and production companies, and we illustrate
our ideas on maps and cross-sections. The comprehensive training
manual that accompanies the workshop, outlines the steps typically
followed in prospect generation and includes examples of the different
types of maps, cross-sections and illustrations commonly used. The
manual will be a useful reference when you are evaluating oil and
gas prospects in the future.
